FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely! Our agency specializes in locating lost funds ranging from $15,000 to $225,000. For example, if we recover the minimum amount of $15,000 for you, your share of the collection would be approximately $9,000 and/or 60% of the total amount. Since this is our minimum recovery amount, larger amounts will result in higher payouts for you!
A tax sale overage, also known as surplus funds, occurs when a property is sold at a tax foreclosure sale for more than the amount owed in taxes, fees, and other costs. The excess amount belongs to the former property owner, but it is often unclaimed due to lack of awareness or complex legal processes. Our team helps you recover these overages.
If your property was sold in a tax foreclosure sale, and the sale price exceeded the amount you owed, you may be entitled to the overage. You can contact us for a free consultation, and we’ll check the records to determine if there are funds available for you.
The recovery process can vary depending on the complexity of the case and the state regulations involved. On average, it takes 2-4 months to complete the recovery process, though it could take longer if legal issues arise. We will keep you updated every step of the way.
There are no upfront fees. We handle all the work ourselves. Similar to attorneys, we operate on a contingency basis, which means we only get paid when we recover your funds. Our standard fee is a 60/40 split, plus expenses, with you keeping the larger portion (60%). If, for any reason, we are unable to recover your funds, you won't owe us anything, making our services risk-free to you. Remember, 60% of something recovered is better than 0% of something lost.
To begin with, were you even aware of these lost funds? If you were, you probably would have addressed this issue on your own. The fact is, claiming tax sale overages can be legally complicated and time-consuming. Filing the necessary paperwork and navigating the court system requires expertise, especially to avoid claim denials or delays. Our experienced team takes care of everything for you, ensuring a faster and more efficient recovery process while you focus on other priorities. Plus, receiving 60% of the funds without having to do any work yourself is a great deal. Just sit back and relax while we handle everything, and you benefit from a substantial percentage!
Yes, each state has specific time limits for claiming tax sale overages, which can range from months to several years. If the funds are not claimed within the designated period, they may be forfeited to the government. Contact us as soon as possible to avoid missing your opportunity to recover your funds.
If the overage is not claimed within the legal timeframe established by the county, the money is usually forfeited and absorbed back into the funds of the state or local government. In other words, you may lose your chance to recover it. This process is known as 'escheating,' which refers to the government's right to take ownership of estate assets or unclaimed property when there are no heirs or beneficiaries. Escheat rights may also apply when assets remain unclaimed for an extended period. Such situations can also be referred to as *bona vacantia* or simply unclaimed property. In short, it is crucial to act quickly to recover the money that rightfully belongs to you. The rules are set by the county offices, which intend for your 'lost funds' to find a new home within their department. Learn more about escheating here.
Getting started is simple! First, you need to schedule a personal phone call with Steve. He will require your updated contact information, including your address, phone number, and email address. During this call, Steve will also discuss the standard paperwork needed to move forward, which includes: 1) Assignments of Rights, 2) a limited Power of Attorney (POA), and 3) the necessary county paperwork relevant to your situation. Additionally, you will arrange a convenient time for a mobile notary to visit you in person. Steve will inform the mobile notary and provide them with the necessary documents, so please expect a phone call from them. Once you sign the required documents, we will be ready to begin the process of collecting your lost funds.
Our paperwork includes the following: 1) Assignments of Rights, a limited Power of Attorney (POA), and the necessary county documents relevant to the situation. Please note that the POA is limited only to interactions with the specific county office in question; it does not grant authority for any other actions.
Yes, we can help you, but we will need to conduct a phone call and have a visit from our mobile notary first. Once you sign the necessary documents, we will be able to share the information with you. Please note that the amounts we pursue range from $15,000 to $250,000, so we assure you, it will be worth your time to allow us to assist you.
You do not need to pay for the notary services; we cover the cost. We utilize a mobile notary service that is located near you. We will send the necessary documents directly to the notary, who will print them out and schedule a time with you for your signatures. Please have a current driver's license or passport ready when the notary arrives. You will first sign the 'Assignment of Rights' page with the notary, followed by the Power of Attorney (POA), and then the paperwork from the county in question. Once the notary has completed the signing, they will email the documents to our team, and we will begin process on retrieving your lost funds!
After we submit all the necessary documentation to the county, it typically takes a few weeks for them to release the funds. The county will issue the check to our agency, which we then deposit. Once the funds are cleared by our bank, we will issue your 60% via check or direct deposit. Plus, we notify you via email on the progress. Please remember that we have mutually signed agreements that protect both of us in this transaction. Additionally, the limited Power of Attorney allows us to capture these funds on your behalf. Keep in mind that receiving 60% of something found is better than 0% of something lost. Without this step, neither of us will receive any payment.
